A Rebel for Your Own Cause

Uranus is the Freedom Fighter and the Liberator. An outer planet archetype*, it’s agenda will come to pass one way or another. At the moment, its half way through its trek in the domain of Aries: for several years now, its been getting personal.

The following are some key words for Aries, an archetype that we all have ruling (applying primary influence on) an area of our life and, to some degree, thereby influencing others. These descriptors will also apply to the natal Mars placement, albeit constrained by the influence of the domain in which it operates.

physical      of the body      proactive      Me, Myself & I     high octane      instigator
sexual/sexy       egocentric      desire-driven      emotional       brave      spontaneous
confident      quick-healing      restless      independent      invincible       self-determining
resilient       of great physical strength or will       ‘no baggage’

self-gratifying       impulsive       irrational       thoughtless       abrupt       rude/crude
rough in nature      unwise       foolhardy       competitive       amoral       easily provoked

Pretty disconcerting for the general population that just wants to get along, right? Its true that in these days when so many of us live in ‘civilised’ communities wherein Law is kept and due process is a right, the Aries individual is considered an unsavory character. At the very least, keep that ‘soldier of fortune’ or ‘warrior without a cause’ on a very short leash.
I once heard a descriptor phrase, though, that really stuck with me: that very first beat of the heart in an unborn child, the very first electrical pulse that kick-starts that tiny being’s journey towards some sort of autonomy: that is Aries, that is Mars energy. Wow, right?! How crucial is this kind of energy that flows through every one of us.

Its also true that you might be someone who needs to seriously work on your abilities to100_dragon-free-vector-image-l[1] consider others before you act, to stop putting yourself or others in dangerous positions, to get a grip on your temper, to stop cutting off your nose to spite your face, etc. but man, once you channel that warrior spirit in positive directions, very little is going to be able to disrupt your trajectory. I desire that I am!

Just a couple hundred years ago, survival required, needed, demanded Aries energy in it’s purest sense. Today, it continues that there must be the will to keep putting one foot in front of the other. I think nowadays, for most readers here, those with a strong Aries/Mars signature should certainly make time for physical activity on a regular basis – of whatever kind that brings emotional highs. However you channel it, its key to feel that you have conquered, prevailed, succeeded.

**********

Sidebar: I often talk about my own Mars, in another fire sign (!), and how I have had to repeatedly learn to channel it well or I am certain to say or do something stupid. My current prescription is hiking foothills. For ME, this regimen ticks all the boxes so that I can bring my best Libran qualities to the rest of life. I give the lead to my Mars energy for an hour or so and what’s left of it (yep, there’s some left) goes peacefully, proactively into the work that my intellect cares about.

This can be tough during the winter months and like most everyone else, I dont always want to put on my shoes and go. Further aggravating is the Saturn/Neptune square which is having a profound effect on me (how about you?). Think descriptors like: warped sense of time, foggy minded, less firm self-authority/self-discipline, an increased desire to be alone, hesitancy to commit but also stunningly spot-on chart readings, super spongey empathy, an ability to teach/relay information in an intuitively based manner that just works. And on top of all that, thank goodness, is a very weird peace that passes understanding when it comes to all of those negative decriptors. Oooph!

**********

Of course, your prescription will match your placements. If your character is more inclined to nurturing and providing ‘abiding presence’ or inhabiting the realms of higher thinking, it is possible that there is simply less inate martian energy to keep in line. You may work on a building site or dance for a living and thus use your Mars quite effectively. Just know this: when Uranus was/is/will be triggered during its journey through Aries, the ‘cleaner’ your Aries is, the stronger your vault will be. Because thats what this transit that astrologers have been talking about for years is all about.

Somewhere in your life you will be able to literally break free from a debilitating influence or pressure being exerted over you against your will. On some issue or theme of issues in your life, you will strive to take authority; you will wage war and be victorious. The thing is…we are talking about Aries, here…you do NOT want to jump from the frying pan into the fire!

I know some of us have done just that. You won the battle but it seems you have lost the war. Ah, take heart: one of the somewhat hidden beauties of life is that when you get it wrong the first ‘x’ number of times, you can count on getting yet another chance to fight again. Battlegrounds are never pretty – and that’s an impetus for keeping your

weapons clean and your strategy upwardly mobile. Uranus wants to take you towards your future better Self but this energy must operate within your Aries/Mars.

Work on your demons, exorcise your ego-bound fears, swear your allegiance to the Golden Rule. Emblazon a working mantra on the screen of your mind (Maybe just pick one of these for starters).Every time you screw up, regroup and reset your Self. And Keep Marching.

She Who Will Not Be Denied

I had planned to post today more about the Uranus and the Aries archetypes and ways by which we could be healthy channels for this unstoppable energy. By my perception, this is THE energy point in our wheels where the action is building, rising, pressing. There may well be multiple ‘tries’ before the winning insight takes root.

It’s also Embolc today.

Embolc honours Bridgit, patron goddess of poets, visionaries, crafters and childbirth and is associated with flame. The theme here – creativity channeled via the Individual

as contribution to the Community – is on tap for all of us. From deep beneath the surface of the cares and heirarchies of life, our need to bring forth our gift continually rises. These characteristics all speak of the higher spectrum of Uranus in Aries energies, too. I will continue to work on that post but an article I happened upon today brings to mind the placement of Lilith just through the portal of Virgo – archetype of the Virgin/Whore – at 7′. The synchronicity of the U-in-A build-up, the full moon in Leo, the intense purity of Bridgit and this Virgo spectrum through which Lilith will express herself in the cosmos is a topic for our current contemplation – whether we identify our Self as male or female. So I guess that means we are in the midst of a mini-series here. 🙂

The following is an excerpt from a post on Modern Mythology by James Curcio:

Lilith, the first Eve, is first recognized by her defiant nature; she is another anti-patriarchal, anti-authoritative symbol. At least, this is the form we encounter her in as she left Babylon with the Jewish exile. So on the one hand we have Lilith as a spirit of the desert, a creature that could slip into your house and devour your children. This is how she would be presented to women, a bogeyman to keep them in place. Of course, this fear tactic isn’t often capitulated consciously; it is something that all the members of a cultural domain participate in unconsciously.

On the other, there is this idea of her as the seductress, luring men away from their societal commitment to the “good mother.” This is an element which some superficially similar symbols, such as Kali, lacks. Without needing to return to textual source, it’s easy enough to typify “this sort” of woman. She has the audacity to do what she wants, and it very well might not be what you or the society wants. There is something impetuous and child-like about her, which can manifest as a resolute defiance when placed within the context of a system of rules. So long as she’s cast in the role of villain, this arouses the suspicion and fear of the wives of men, and their shameful observance to whichever force is the stronger.

This is an important point: Lilith often appears in a different guise to men than women. Of course, there are personal and cultural factors. To women, especially within sexually restrictive cultures, we see more of the “devourer of children,” aspect. To men, she appears as the seductress, the dark anima. The kind of girl that you don’t take home to mother. But in either case she represents a direct threat to the established social order, especially the order of marriage and monogamy. She is an enemy of stasis, of duty and societal bonds. In modern contexts, the threat posed to women is re-enforced by the ad and fashion industries efforts to increases competition and insecurity, as well as the conflict of the myths of domesticity, “slut shaming,” and so on. In a softer, more romanticized form, it is not surprising that Lilith has re-appeared as a potent symbol in bi-, lesbian, and polyamorous communities, especially amongst those who might have some derision towards “breeders.” However, Lilith is not simply a symbol of liberation. She also represents a point of contention between personal senses of restriction and freedom.

Yes, that’s her and she is a part of our communal subconscious energy, working to be heard and seen. The issue is whether her symptoms, felt by us consciously in our microcosm, are actually being given their due opportunity to lead us individually to a greater wholeness as both bowl and bell, sustainer/nurturer and creator. I am wishing us the courage of an open mind (it’s almost never as scary as we think it will be). Contact me via my email, below, to find out how she works in your life and how you can learn to ‘sit’ with her.

Uranus in Aries: The Good Guys, too

One evening while channel flipping, I caught a CNN Ones to Watch segment on graffiti artists. I am drawn to graffiti; it is one of the most real form of (exhibition) art that I am aware of. It never fails to speak volumes to me. Graffiti artists are among the colorful vanguard of Uranus in Aries and many of them are channeling pure positive soul food for the masses in their cosmos. This is true celebrity.

In Portugal, VHILS literally blows up walls to create his works of art upon them, from time to time. If that’s not a counter intuitive approach, I don’t know what is. About VHILS, street artist Shepard Fairey says, “Of course relief sculpture, or things like blowing away the side of the rock to create Mount Rushmore these have been done before, but never in the middle of the night without permission.”

Shamsia Hassani is Afghanistan’s first female street artist and first 3D street artist. She was chosen to be one of Global Thinkers/Foreign Policy’s 100 for 2014. Her life has been full of heart-pounding, fearful moments as consequence for revolutionary behavior in the established hierarchy. ‘Because some of them do not like art, and some of them thinking it is not a good job for a woman, and some of them think it is something that is not allowed in Islam, they are trying to stop me,” she says.

Chicago-native Jordan Nickel, known as Pose, says, “I just set constant challenges every time I set out to do something, either bigger, better, different — uncomfortable territories — because I feel like pushing myself.” I like that he doesn’t just automatically think in terms of ‘bigger’; sometimes ‘different’ is exactly the ‘push’-direction that ultimately brings satisfaction. And the end result has an impact he can’t possibly know. Ripples of energized intent effecting others beyond the creative moment in Time, just as is the case in our own lives when we consciously step out of perceived stasis and grow.

For all three of these artists, it’s not about approval and their action bears fruit that edifies many.

I also think it’s important to note that mainstream media can still expose the individual to a lot of goodies in their non-headline news segments. Many of us now get our news from diverse online sources that, to some degree, inform and supplement our understanding of current affairs. I think this forces corporate media to accept that providing the beast a diet of nothing but atrocity makes for a savage beast. Music and other art forms, however, ‘hath powers’ and you want to keep your audience soothed in positive ways. There are still a lot of individuals who, for reasons such as geographic location, psychological mindset or finances, are not exposed to any other source of information than their local TV and radio stations. And I mean a lot in the developed world. So if they are channel flipping, thank goodness they might still hit an uplifting Uranus in Aries program.

Check out the statement prefacing the Global Thinkers 2014 list that includes Hassani:

‘When its history is written, 2014 will be remembered as a year when remarkable individuals smashed the world as we know it—for better and for worse. While some left horrific wreckage in their wake, others showed that a better future demands tearing down foundations and building something entirely new. Disruption, clearly, is not always a bad thing.’

This is a textbook definition of the Uranus/Pluto square. It also defined Jupiter in Leo and Mars in Capricorn on a stage set by Saturn in Scorpio, amongst others this past year.  In 2015, as you become more aware of the archetypes at work around you, you will come to see examples of them, suddenly obvious, occasionally jaw dropping, in words and imagery. This post is about ones I’ve seen that encourage me and so I share it. Keep your eyes and ears open, too, because this awareness can help you gauge and assess your own use of universal currents.  Let’s Co-Create!   HP5823[1]     – weaver More info/contact: elemental.living@yahoo.com   Share your thoughts and/or examples you have noticed…

update per comment below: here’s another great example! 🙂 ‘A maker, a creator, a DIY-type of person. People interested in self-sufficiency, regenerative development, as well as survivalists. A person who does it because it’s possible. Our goal is to bring the barriers way down to do this.’
